Terms And Conditions For One-Time Password

The customer shall use the services after confirming that these Terms and Conditions constitute the agreement on the transaction using the One-Time Password.

Article 1 - Scope of Applicability
These terms and conditions (these “Terms and Conditions”) set forth the handling of one-time password provided by Sony Bank (“Company”).
Article 2 - Definitions
The terms used in these Terms and Conditions shall have the following meanings:
  • One-Time Password means:
    a variable password generated by and displayed on Token and Sony Bank Application. This is used to verify the customer’s identity in transactions with the Company.
  • Token means:
    a token-type One-Time Password generator which the Company lends to the customer.
  • Registered Token means:
    a Token registered in accordance with the Company’s Token registration procedures.
  • Sony Bank Application means:
    software prescribed by the Company which should be installed on the customer’s smartphone.
Article 3 - Use of One-Time Password
  • To use One-Time Password, the customer needs to register Token or Sony Bank Application in advance in a manner prescribed by the Company.
  • Token and Sony Bank Application cannot be registered or used at the same time.
Article 4 - Registration of Token and Sony Bank Application
  • Token shall be registered in accordance with the following procedures.
    • Application for a Token in a manner prescribed by the Company. Upon acceptance of the customer’s application, the Company will send a Token to the address the customer has registered with the Company (“Registered Address”). The destination to which a Token will be sent must be only in Japan.
    • Entering information prescribed by the Company after receipt of a Token. At the time when it is confirmed by the method prescribed by the Company that the information the customer has entered and communicated to the Company matches the information the Company has about the customer; the Token registration is complete.
    • Notwithstanding item 1, the Company will not send a Token if:
      • the Company considers that the customer’s address is unknown because the mail sent to the Registered Address fails to be delivered;
      • the customer has not used his/her account for a period prescribed by the Company; or
      • the Company otherwise considers it inappropriate to lend a Token.
    • If a Token is returned to the Company due to imperfect entry of the Registered Address or the customer’s absence, the Company will notify the customer in a manner prescribed by the Company and the customer must follow the procedures prescribed by the Company.
  • Sony Bank Application shall be registered in accordance with the following procedures:
    • Consent to the Company’s “Terms and Conditions for Smartphone Application Software.”
    • Installation of Sony Bank Application on the customer’s smartphone.
    • Entering information prescribed by the Company into Sony Bank Application. At the time when it is confirmed by the method prescribed by the Company that the information the customer has entered and communicated to the Company matches the information the Company has about the customer; the Sony Bank Application registration is complete.
  • In the case of the preceding two paragraphs, if the information the customer has entered and communicated to the Company does not match the information the Company has about the customer more than the number of consecutive times specified by the Company, the Company will notify the customer thereof in a manner prescribed by the Company, and will suspend the customer’s registration of Token or Sony Bank Application for a period of time prescribed by the Company.
  • The maximum number of Tokens the customer can register per account shall be as separately determined by the Company. The customer can register Sony Bank Application for one device per account. If the customer applies for registration of another Sony Bank Application while he/she already possesses one, the customer can no longer use the previously registered Sony Bank Application.
Article 5 - Charges
Charges for issuance and reissuance of Token shall be as separately determined by the Company.
Notwithstanding the Terms and Conditions for Savings Account, charges shall be debited from the customer’s savings account without entering the Passwords, etc. In addition, charges once debited shall not be returned for any reason.
Article 6 - Reissuance of Token
  • Token cannot be used if One-Time Password is not displayed due to a flat battery or for other reasons. If, when a Token button is pressed, Token displays that the battery level falls below a certain level before the scheduled replacement date specified by the Company, or if Token cannot be used due to a mechanical failure or is lost, the customer must apply for re-issuance of Token in a manner prescribed by the Company. If Token is lost, or if the customer’s use of Token involves a misusage, misuse, accident, disaster, alteration, repair or installation, storage under extreme conditions (e.g. very hot, cold or humid) or other use that differs from the normal use, the customer must pay for reissuance for a new Token.
  • Upon acceptance of the customer’s application, the Company will send a replacement Token to the customer’s Registered Address.
  • The provisions of Article 4 shall apply mutatis mutandis to where Token will be sent or returned.
  • After receipt of a new Token, the customer must follow the registration procedures prescribed by the Company.
Article 7 - Replacement of Token
  • The Company has set the date scheduled for Token replacement. If the scheduled date has passed, the Company will inform the customer of Token replacement on the prescribed screen. The customer must apply for Token replacement in a manner prescribed by the Company.
  • Upon acceptance of the customer’s application, the Company will send a replacement Token to the customer’s Registered Address.
  • The provisions of Article 4 shall apply mutatis mutandis to where Token will be sent or returned.
  • After receipt of a new Token, the customer must follow the registration procedures prescribed by the Company.
Article 8 - Deletion of Token Registration
When the customer discontinues the use of Registered Token, he/she must delete the registration in a manner prescribed by the Company. After all Registered Tokens are deleted, the customer’s identity will be verified for each transaction using One-Time Password on Sony Bank Application or a security question.
Article 9 - Management of Token and Sony Bank Application
  • The ownership of Token belongs to the Company. The customer must manage Token with the care of a prudent manager.
  • The customer must not sell or pledge Token. The customer must not assign, lend or disclose Registered Token to others. The customer must, at his/her own responsibility, strictly manage One-Time Password in a manner to ensure that it will not be used by others. If there is any possibility of unauthorized use of Registered Token or a device on which Sony Bank Application has been installed due to forgery, theft or loss, the customer must promptly notify the Company in the prescribed manner thereof. The Company shall not be liable for any damage incurred before the Company receives such notification.
  • If Token is no longer usable due to flat battery or mechanical failure, if the customer terminates transactions with the Company, or in the case of the following paragraph, the customer must destroy or return Token to the Company.
  • If the Company deems the customer used Token or Sony Bank Application in violation of these Terms and Conditions, the Company may revoke the registration.
Article 10 - Indemnity
  • The Company shall not be liable for any damage caused by the customer’s failure to properly manage Registered Token, Sony Bank Application or One-Time Password.
  • So long as Token has been issued, replaced or registered or Sony Bank Application has been registered in a manner prescribed by the Company, the Company will handle the customer’ application for a transaction using One-Time Password as valid even though the One-Time Password is subject to unauthorized use or other type of mishap, and the Company shall not be liable for any damage caused thereby.
  • The Company shall not be liable in any way for any damage arising through no fault of the Company after the Company has sent Token to the customer’ Registered Address under these Terms and Conditions. The Company shall also not be liable in any way for any damage caused by the sent Token being returned to the Company for reasons not attributable to the Company (such as unknown address) after the Company has sent Token to the customer’ Registered Address.
  • The Company shall not be liable for any damage caused by the delay or inability of handling any application for a transaction using One-Time Password due to a failure of Registered Token or Sony Bank Application except where it was caused by fault on the Company’s part.
  • The Company shall not be liable in any way for lost profit, extended damage, indirect damage or other damage under special circumstances incurred in connection with the use of One-Time Password.
Article 11 - Mutatis Mutandis Application of Other Terms and Conditions
Concerning any matters that are not specified in these Terms and Conditions, Sony Bank General Terms and Conditions and other applicable terms and conditions adopted by the Company shall apply mutatis mutandis.
Article 12 - Modification of these General Terms and Conditions
  • The Company may modify these Terms and Conditions and other conditions in the event that changes in financial situations or other reasonable grounds are deemed. The Company will provide notification of the modification by posting relevant information on its website or by other appropriate means.
  • The modifications in the preceding paragraph shall be applied from the commencing date of application set forth at the Company's notification, etc.
